I have one tape that I play for people when they really want to know what Minóy and his screaming insanity are really like and it is so suffocating and unyielding that nobody can sit through a whole side of it. This is Minóyellstillife (its companion piece is Minóykillstillife) and it features multiple layers of Minóy's most famous ranting with extra processing and effects by RoLMo. This has gut wrenching maniacal screaming: "WHAT WILL I DO, WOOLLYBRAIN!", plus what I consider to be a 'greatest hits' of Minóy histrionics.

The Elevation of Anxiety works are my collaborations with Minóy recorded by both of us (sometimes his mix - as in all of the m\z tapes; sometimes mine). These started in 1985 when I mixed together a couple Minóy tapes. The titles with lots of M's and Z's are part of this series which evolved as we sent tapes back and forth, adding more goodies to each other's mix. These also include Aquabatic Bubblegum, Dubzanmex and Zanminóysextra.

Caught in the Throat of the Beast is a strange Minóy composition which changes so much, and continually goes in so many different directions that it is difficult to pin a descriptive phrase on it. It can be said that it is not a dense mix: items float freely, they come and go, and none of the sounds linger for any extended periods of time.

This takes the jake hobo random thing one step farther (and once you do this you can only really do it once before you come back from the brink) where i didn’t even listen to the tape as i was making it. mainly you risk distortion, but it was an anti-ego experiment in no taste. i remember sitting on the floor of the livingroom at drake park apartments. orange carpet, I was facing east. in front of me was a tin pie pan divided into segments that were numbered which i would spin to determine to things.(i believe it was this process that i used for this realese) to my left was a drawer of source tapes from all manner of people. i believe i arrived at which tapes to use by a different method than the pan. (perhaps multi-sided d&d dice? and maybe not)

Spring cleaning in 1997 unearthed some collaborations which had slipped into obscurity. The Forge a Pan recordings were ten years old and needed only a short track to finish the work. It now consists of two pieces, creaky, sometimes creepy, but always changing landscapes. Jack Jordan reports
Murky tones in darkish zones, quietly propelling toward an undefinable destination. A plethora of quietly competing electronics flit and dart about the predominant tones and drones, giving them body and weight. Toward the end, an eerie aggregation of voices pained and sorrowed intrudes against an otherworldly minor-keyed instro/elec backdrop... enter more crazy-quilt vocal samplings and elex to place us in a rear, dimly lit room of a mental asylum...our equilibrium is never regained and there's a cold stop. Some really nice tension here showing a talented use of control and restraint.

The latter is a torrentially dismembered version of the former. Lots of radio interruptions and nasty cross edits, shortwave disruption and media disembodiment. It's this classic tape (Sodomy) that Dave Prescott played continually on WZBC; plus it received the classic critical comment in an Option review: "It's tapes like these that make me wonder why people bother." This tape is not everyone's cup of tea, and we're proud of that.

The most unnerving tape in my Elevation of Anxiety catalog has to be the Round One - Minóy vs. Zannóy combat which pits a nasty audio letter from Minóy (one that forced me to not write him or listen to any of his tapes for an entire year) with my response, plus some background continuity from Tuf. Jeph Jerman said it was a tape that he really wanted to turn off, but couldn't because it was so compelling. Dave Prescott simply replied "You are a Genius."

Done in the basement of 132 while I was attending U of L. Studio equipment would be the aunt jean tape deck (shoe box style I call it with the buttons on one end in front of the cassette that faces up and the speaker is behind that going to the back of the unit)and the jvc kdw double deck w/ mike line dubbing. These were wired together, finally with low impedence cords, and because the jvc would copy at double speed, and allow simultaneous overdubbing, I often experiment with time- adjusted sounds. Mainly to try to take them away from being recognized. Thus with obscurity I could do experimental music. At this point Minoy drone tapes were a real eye opener for me. I never imagined carrying a whole piece for an entire side of a tape. That was unreal. The only way I could really get there early on was by experimented running different min—y tapes against each other at various speeds. I am not sure I really intened to release these, I just perhaps a bit guiltily admitted to Minoy that I had done this and sent him a copy. Of course because it was just him (not us) he was flattered and enthusiastic about this course (coarse) of events. This is one of the early tapes of this school
